We are pleased that you have taken the time to visit the Walnut Grove High School website. Our hope is that you will find our website to be user-friendly, and after your visit, you will have a good
idea of what we have to offer at WGHS.
On behalf of the faculty and staff at Walnut Grove High School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our school’s website. Walnut Grove High School is the home of the “Warriors.” We feel that WGHS is a great place to teach and to learn. At the home of the Warriors, there exists a family atmosphere fostered by dedicated and caring teachers and support staff; focused and respectful students; a strong, supportive board of education and district administration; and an active parent and community base.
Even though Walnut Grove High School is only five years old, our school has established a tradition of high expectations in its brief history in both academics and extra-curricular offerings. Our school’s assessment scores consistently outpace the state scores and local RESA scores.
Walnut Grove High School offers a diverse and challenging curriculum. Advanced courses and Advanced Placement courses are
designed to bring necessary rigor and challenge to students seeking to enter university level coursework. Elective courses are designed to enable students to find connections among and deepen the curricula found in coursework. Areas of elective coursework offered at WGHS include: Fine Arts, Career Technology, and Foreign Language. Last year our school produced 15 AP Scholars and 9 Governor’s Honors Program candidates at the state level. WGHS also had seven students selected to participate in the Youth Leadership Walton program sponsored by the Walton Chamber of Commerce. We are very proud of our students and celebrate their success.
Also, one of our goals at WGHS is that our students have the opportunities to compete in athletic competitions displaying
integrity and good sportsmanship on the playing field while being successful in the classroom. Students are encouraged to participate in some of the 14 sports and 32 clubs and organizations that are
Walnut Grove High School is a proud Title I school. WGHS has a Free and Reduced Lunch rate of 44.3%. The ethnicity of our student body is 78% white, 15% black, and 7% other. 72.6% of our learners are regular education students, 19.4% are gifted students, and 8.9% are students with disabilities. The teaching staff at Walnut Grove High School is 100% Highly Qualified by state criteria. WGHS has 76 teachers of whom 78% hold upper level degrees with an average of 11 years teaching experience.
As you can see from this brief narrative, there are many wonderful things happening at WGHS. These opportunities provided at WGHS would not be possible without strong partnerships with our parents and business members throughout the community.
